We would like to invite you to the Community Nedley Depression and Anxiety Recovery Program that will be held in March. Dr. Neil Nedley is an internal medicine physician who found nearly 1/3 of the patients coming into his office for various symptoms also struggled with depression. He knew lifestyle impacted many chronic diseases, and so researched options to enhance mental/emotional health. As more patients came to him for this primary purpose, he realized he could not see them all individually. The residential and community-based programs have allowed him to reach as many as 10,000 participants with this message of hope. Some non-depressed people attend the program to achieve their peak mental performance!
The program runs 8 weeks on Monday evenings and covers topics such as how to:
- Manage stress
- Identify depression and anxiety and their causes
- Achieve peak mental performance
- Improve your emotional intelligence
- Eat for optimal brain function
- Overcome addictions
- Enhance your energy levels and mood
- Defeat depression and anxiety
These are not therapy sessions, but an educational lifestyle program that encourages you to focus on and implement one or more interventions each week at home. In addition, you will be encouraged to read a couple of books teaching you to examine and enhance your thoughts. Dr. Nedley covers the topics in a recorded presentation followed by small support and discussion groups. You will take a Depression and Anxiety Assessment test on the first and last session (if you have watched all the sessions) to have objective feedback.
We did this program 12-14 years ago. A few of the comments/feedback I heard were:
- (at a grocery store five years later) “Thank you so much for the program. I still haven’t had to go back on my antidepressants.”
- (telling the spouse) “Maybe this is why we moved to Yakima, just to take this class.”
- (after scoring “severely depressed” on initial test to “no depression” on the follow up test) “Your sharing someone else’s testimony where they asked themselves, ‘Do I really want to live this way the rest of my life?’ woke me up to seriously put into practice the things I was learning.”
Two free introduction sessions, Mondays, February 17 & 24, 2025 at 6:30 p.m., will allow potential participants to see if this program might be helpful for them. If interested, you will pay for your books and testing that evening via cash or check and we will order them for you in time for the first March meeting. Feel free to share this invitation with anyone you think may be interested.
Blessings!
